Natalia Gonzalez Marten exhibited with Collective Ending as part of ABSINTHE §3 & Old Friends, New Friends.
Natalia's work is preoccupied with the symbolic aspect of objects and their veneration, this is done through an exploration of the mystic relationships between society and objects. Her work borrows imagery from the past and distorts them, consequently, questions of ownership and collecting become palpable in her practice. Her latest work takes direct inspiration from her own iconodule catholic upbringing which was saturated with images, icons and representations. Through a process of fragmenting the subjects, she recreates ancient narratives through a contemporary lens. Throughout the creation of these fictitious icons and their arbitrary classification, her work questions the precariousness of the established value given to objects.
