Bio
The work of Marie Jacotey is an uncanny yet familiar set of stories: inspired by her friends, strangers, literature and popular culture, Jacotey’s filmic tales of love, loneliness and solitude are portrayed through a distinctive form of social vignette. Working across media and scale, Jacotey uses text and image to form diary-like works that scintillate with an affective, social tension. Infusing autobiography with fiction, a wealth of social anecdotes and stories with pop-cultural trends and irony, Jacotey’s work remains true to the personal and social contradictions it presents. These are stories of relationships, self-reflection and intimacy, as much defined by their heartache and tenderness as they are by their rawness and brutality; her latest works, charged with a proclivity toward the erotic, sensual and violent side of these stories.
Marie (b. Paris) lives and works in London. She graduated with an MA in Printmaking from Royal College of Art in 2013, having previously completed her DNSAD iÉcole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in 2011.
